A New Song

August 18, 2007 at 9:21 pm (Writing) ()

Been fiddling around with a few song ideas over the past few months. Probably have at least five or six “half-written” (which, properly translated, means “unwritten”) songs lying around.

Tonight, as I sat finger-picking anything that sounded reasonable, I began to sing a bit. The words came… I wrote them down. I’m off to sleep on this one for the night. I’ll get back to you in the morning… Here are a few lines:

There are tiny footprints on my floor
I don’t remember seeing them before
ooh, I wish that time would just slow down
There are tiny footprints on my floor

Night,
J

It’s About Time… to Breathe Again

August 11, 2007 at 9:22 pm (General Entry) ()

Jesus and John Lennon has been on my mind lately. I picked up the guitar and harp and played it about five times today. It’s probably been two or three months since I played it. The good news is I feel just as good about that song as I did when I wrote it. After re-learning that one, I played through a few others. Felt good, but my fingers hurt!

Been a busy summer. Although I’ve been away from the guitar and writing for awhile now, I’ve been picking it up from time to time. Ideas are still coming, but just a little slower. There are probably five or six unfinished song ideas kicking around.

The kids’ activities fired up around May as well as my cycling/running. It’s been a great summer for both. There were a couple of music events that I didn’t attend in the spring. Looking forward to getting out to play again soon.

I’m not sure if I’m still doing the Acoustic Guitar Festival in Trenton at the end of this month. The lady who is running it hasn’t called me back as she said she would. Maybe I’ll give her a ring this week. My favorite open mics (Baseline and East River) are firing up next month. The schedule is updated and I’ll try to stay on top of it.

It’s About Time to let these songs breathe again.

See you soon,
John
